2019 December Newsletter

Welcome to the December edition of the Newton Abbot & Totnes Fencing club newsletter & Merry Christimas and Happy New Year to all our fencers that make our club so special.

Here is a excellent quote to take all you lovley fencers into 2020 from a really famous and brilliant man, Nelson Mandela.

“ The Greatest Glory in Living lies not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.”

Please be safe this Christmas, think of others and most importantly of all enjoy it – you’ve deserved it.

Well what has gone on this year so far ?

  • Thanks to the action and hard work of Chris Empson (Newton Abbot foilist) we managed to secure some funding for much needed 800 newton plastrons-thank you Chris, brilliant effort.
  • Thanks for Jim for releasing some funds, we now have a really hi-tec user friendly webpage for our club. Don’t forget it is now called www.newtonabbotfencing.co.uk please visit it to catch up on all the news, competitions, photos and the latest happenings.
  • There was an emergency First Aid at Work (eFAW) course run by myself (Bill Berkley) at Exeter University (thanks for organising the venue, Arlen) for fencing members. Those of Newton Abbot club who attended it was free and those of other clubs paid £30 that went straight back into the club. I will be organising another course in ? March, so watch this space.
  • We have established a regular spot as regards our montly club competiion. The 1st Tuesday of each month is Epee , the 2nd Tuesday of each month is Foil and the 3rd Tuesday of each month is Sabre.
  • Membership is starting to improve, not as fast as I would like so please spread the word and mention to your friends/family about the art of fencing and let them come along for a taster ssession.
  • Many members of our club have entered in national and regional competitons and have flown the flag of our brilliant club.
  • So lets look forward to next year, better kit, increased membership and the ever friendly and warm welcome you get at Newton Abbot fencing club
