Welcome to the January edition of the Newton Abbot & Totnes Fencing club newsletter & I hope you all had a Brilliant Christmas with lots of alcohol, presents, fun and laughter.
Another very useful artice from our own fencing Master, Jan Lacey:-
“Ducking or Squatting Down”
Ducking or squatting down in front of an opponent when fencing at close distance, especially, when the opponent is making an attack, could result in the attacker falling over the ducking or squatting opponent which would result in both fencers falling off the piste, quite often one or both fencers receiving injuries.
Some referee’s may allow this but in the result of this causing an injury the ducking/squatting fencer may be penalised. This is a movement that I would strongly discourage.
